How The HeArd got it's name:
During a rehearsal of Anything Goes, Merry and Mark were signing
a S-L-O-W love song to each other while the other two interpreters, Juliette
and Michael, were waiting for their cue. One of the interpreters began
signing "COW COW" which is an American Sign Language (ASL) idiom
for the concept of something taking too long. Michael and Juliette began
signing cow gestures in the air to the rhythm of the love song. After
that, any time a slow song appeared in a show rehearsal, the interpreters
not signing a song began creating beautiful cow movements. And, thus,
The HeArd was born.
We called ourselves the herd, and added an "A" as a cow ear
between the "E" and "R" because we depend on our ears
to hear the shows in the middle of THE HE-A-RD.
